Stumble Upon!

Wednesday, March 4, 2009

The trend of information sharing is obviously changing and different internet players are trying to come up with new concepts in order to grab the attention. One of the major problem in web businesses is you have to give your users something new to increase your traffic otherwise your users will be bored with the same old activities. Orkut is one example which I would like to give here. Although the concept was great and they were the market leader in Brazil, India and Pakistan. But they didn’t add something new and facebook came up with a concept of applications and new catchy interface. Now if you go to alexa.com and compare the traffic between orkut and facebook, you will find Orkut nowhere near to facebook. What is this all telling us?

Definitley, Internet players have to be aware of the fact that no matter how catchy your interface is, how many features are there on your website but there will be a time when your website will boredom the audience. A new concept has arrived which is not new to the world but its still has to be evovled in Pakistan because most of the traffic is from the west and still alot of brand awareness needed.

StumbleUpon is an Internet community that allows its users to discover and rate Web pages, photos, and videos. It is a personalized recommendation engine which uses peer and social-networking principles.

Web pages are presented when the user clicks the "Stumble!" button on the browser's toolbar. StumbleUpon chooses which Web page to display based on the user's ratings of previous pages, ratings by his/her friends, and by the ratings of users with similar interests. Users can rate or choose not to rate any Web page with a thumbs up or thumbs down, and clicking the Stumble button resembles "channel-surfing" the Web. StumbleUpon also allows their users to indicate their interests from a list of nearly 500 topics to produce relevant content for the user There is also one-click blogging built in as well.

Go see it for yourself…It has a lot to offer!!!!!
